Glasses, Contacts or Surgery?

What's the best way to improve your vision?
该戴眼镜,隐形眼镜还是动手术?哪种方法最能改善视力?

Sue and Karen run into each other at an eye doctor's office.

Sue: Hay, Karen! What are you doing here?
Karen: I'm having trouble with my glasses. I don't think they are strong enough anymore. I need a new prescription. How about you?
I'm just here for a checkup, but I plan to ask the doctor about laser surgery.
Really? Why would you want to have surgery?
Glasses and Contact lenses are just so much trouble. I'd be really happy to get rid of them.
I personally think glasses are pretty easy to deal with  - you just have to put them on and take them off.
I know, but they fog up and you have to be careful not to lose or break them.
Laser surgery sounds kind of scary, though. You have to be awake the whole time, and you can see almost everything that's happening.
Well, the surgery might not be pleasant at the time, but to me, having a permanent solution for my vision problems is worth the trouble.
But laser surgery doesn't always solve vision problems - I've heard some people need it more than once. And there are other risks too.
What risks could there be with such a simple procedure?
Eye infections or even new problems like double vision.
But those problems must be pretty rare. So many of my friends have recommended laser surgery that I think it's worth the risk. Plus, contact lenses have risks too.
True. You have to be careful to keep them clean, and change them often to avoid getting an infection.
It's also possible for contacts to scratch your eyes. And they're not always that comfortable.
Yeah, but they're more comfortable than glasses, and lots of people say you can see better. You can also wear while you're playing sports.
But after eye surgery, you can play sports without contacts. Besides, buying contact lenses and contact solution gets expensive.
Laser surgery is even more expensive! And insurance doesn't usually pay for it.
It may cost a lot at first, but I think it's worthwhile in the long run.
Maybe. Be sure to ask the doctor every question you can think of.
Don't worry. I will. That's really why I'm here.
Well, let me know what you decide.
