In just 20 years, Sandra Bullock has been an undercover FBI agent, a homicide detective and a bus driver who saves the day. Growing up
Born to a German, opera-singing mother and an American, vocal coach father, Bullock grew up around talent. Having performers for parents nurtured her creative drive and propelled her onto the stage. By age 12, Bullock was singing in a children's choir and studying ballet in Nuremberg, Germany, where her family lived at the time. During these years, Bullock also accompanied her mother on several opera tours throughout Europe. All the while, her passion for performance was growing. When her family returned to the United States. Bullock completed high school and enrolled in a university. Three credits short of graduation, however, Bullock left school and headed to New York in 1986 to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.
At home in Hollywood
Three years later with a few minor roles to her name, Bullock left New York for Los Angeles in hopes of findings success in Hollywood. She finally got her big break when she co-starred in 1994's action-packed thriller Speed. Soon after, Sandra Bullock became both a household name and sought-after actress. Movie-role offers poured in, and Bullock's celebrity soared. Fans and critics alike praised bullock's versatility as an actress.
After a string of successful films including While You Were Sleeping. Miss Congeniality, Hope Floats and the award-winning Crash, Bullock received the opportunity of a lifetime. And she almost turned it down.
Bullock gets blindsided
Bullock was initially terrified of portraying Leigh Anne Tuohy, the woman whose true story is the basis of the highly acclaimed film The Blind Side. Bullock didn't know if she could do justice to the demanding role. Finally, after nearly a year of trying to persuade her, the film's director convinced Bullock to take the role. Bullock wowed both critics and fans with her performance and went on to win 2010's coveted Academy Award for Best Actress. And with that, Bullock's star shines more brightly than ever.
